I am a photographer who has chronicled the de-industrialized urban waterfront since 2007. For the last 3 years, I have been working on a series of photographs titled Castles Made of Sand of the places around New York City that will be affected by sea level rise. I have taught photography at City Tech since 2003.

Bringing my students to the archives gives them the opportunity to see and to handle a variety of older photography formats including daguerreotypes, tintypes, and lantern slides. This experience demonstrates much more effectively than any lecture that photography is a continuously evolving technology and that the process used to create an image is integral to its meaning.
